While you would not be expected to find the Gnome garden of Wast Water, it is the story that surrounds it which makes this swim one of the most entertaining. Wast Water is England's deepest lake and situated, allegedly, at just beyond 50m is a gnome garden. This garden had been 'growing' at 48m deep but police divers were instructed to remove it after three divers died in the late 1990's due to spending too much time at this depth. Since then the garden has been reconstructed a few metres below the original, just out of reach of the maximum depth the police are allowed to dive to!
