Swim on the Wild Side will assess your swimming, offer professional coaching, and set your mind at rest.
Our courses are held in Derwentwater – perhaps the most idyllic setting in the Cumbrian Lake District. After a short talk about basics, including safety and legal requirements, we’ll dip our toes in the water with a 350m swim along the shoreline. This will allow us to take you through the acclimatisation process and assess your stroke technique.
Before we go any further, we’ll talk you through all aspects of open water swimming – weather conditions, using the right equipment, coping with moisture and learning how to swim in a straight line when there are no tiles to follow! The final distance you choose to swim is dependent on a number of factors, including your comfort and safety.
You will at all times be supervised by Neil Cooper, an experienced Open Water Swimmer who is a high performance coach and trained in open water swimmer kayak rescue. There will be at all times kayak support.
